A day in the life
Good look at the owie. It's healing up pretty good now. She loves playing play doh right now. She wants me to make her all kinds of animal shapes and she plays with them on the kitchen floor. I usually have to make her put them away (put them night, night) so they don't dry up :)
Potty training....it's coming along slowly. She is definitely more willing to do it now and she's actually gone all by herself, without help a couple times. But at this point it's still me in "training", trying to get her to go consistently and sometimes we're busy and I just forget. So maybe she'll be trained sometime this summer?

Adventures in Artistry
We did a little art project today. I thought it might be cool for Alyssa to make her own creation to hang in her room. So we went and bought paints and a canvas and I let her go to town. She really liked all the paint brushes and probably used 20 of the 25 brushes I bought. She was actually pretty creative and used sponges and paper towels to "wipe" the paint and it looked pretty good. I had to do a few little touch ups the most of the work is her own. Maybe she will be a little more artistic than me and Nate.

Alyssa's "owie"
Alyssa face planted onto the sidewalk the other day. She loves holding Rugby's leash and usually they do fine together. Most of the time we are in the back yard where Rugby has no other distractions. On this day Bethany took Alyssa and Rugby outside in front of Megan's apartment and Rugby saw another dog...he bolted and Alyssa landed on her face. It was really her first "big" injury so it was sad. I get a lot of comments about it, but thats life. Hopefully she will heal up in no time.
San Juan Island
Bethany and my mom came to visit me and Megan this weekend and we took a trip to the San Juan islands. It was actually a nice, sunny day in Wa, rare for this time of year. We took a ferry out to the island and spent the day walking around, eating shopping and enjoying the beautiful weather. Alyssa was so excited about the beach so we had to find her a nice sandy area to throw rocks. She was disappointed she didn't get to swim:) We went to a place that has the best whale watching from shore in the US, but we didn't see any, to early in the year I guess. But the view was beautiful. I forget sometimes that we are surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges because we can't see them for more than half the year, but on clear days it's absolutely spectacular.

Ephesians 6:1
I saw a friend's son recite this verse on their blog a few weeks ago and I thought, that would be a great one to teach Alysaa. So we've been working on it for the last couple days and she pretty much has it down. She doesn't really like looking at the camera but you can hear her pretty good. Thanks Kim and Luke for the inspiration :)
frustrating
I'm feeling really frustrated and I need to vent. Communicating with Nate during the deployment can be tough sometimes because of his schedule, my schedule, the time difference and other random things, but it has never been this frustrating. We have done Skype a few times which has been great, but the problem is trying to connect in the first place. I have missed all of his calls in the last two days and the worst part is, I have been here at home for all of the calls!! I just haven't heard the computer ring or my cell phone ring, and I've realized the missed calls within minutes of them happening. I feel horrible for Nate because he is probably more frustrated because he is altering his sleeping schedule to get ahold of me and it just isn't working. I know I shouldn't complain because there are so many people who don't even have these opportunies to communicate with their deployed family members. But it's been hard on us the last few days. So if you think about it, pray that we can get ahold of each other soon.

First hair cut
Alyssa had her first haircut this week. I forgot to bring the camera to the salon so I don't have any cute pictures of her sitting in the barbie jeep. She did well though and sat pretty still. It's not too much of a change, just had the baby ends cut off. So my little girl just keeps growing up, where has the time gone?!

uh oh
Recently Alyssa has gotten to the point where I don't feel like I have to watch her all the time and we let her play upstairs by herself sometimes. A couple weeks ago Nate and I were down stairs and Alyssa was upstairs playing, but it got awfully quiet, so I went to see what she was up to..... She got into my makeup bag and putting on makeup, "I like Mommy." "I pretty." It was really cute, but she now knows to leave my make up alone.
